2016 starts with violence.
On New Year’s night, police officers promised to wipe out people one by one. Five of the activists belonging to the “New Armenia” movement were arrested in Freedom Square.
Four of them had been released, but Gevorg Safaryan was accused of violence against a state representative. He was detained for two months. If they find him guilty, he will be sentenced to five years in prison.

On Jan 5 at 7 pm two burly men attacked “New Armenia Front” supporter Suzy Gevorgyan. They harassed her, threw her to the ground, and hit her head, face and other parts of the body with their feet.

On Christmas day, the 6th of January, on Demirchyan St. civic activist Vardges Gaspari was attacked and beaten. After that, Gaspari went to the Presidential Palace where police forcefully dragged him into their car and then threw him in an alleyway somewhere in Davtashen.
The police chief of the fourth special battalion of police, Captain Gegham Khachatryan wrote the following status on his facebook page, “We consciously maintain public order from the monkeys that roam the square”.
On January 22nd, the people will come out for the rebellious march protesting to punish Gegham Khachatryan for his words.
